AMOROUS TIMBERDOODLE

Otherwise known as a woodcock, an incredible chunky little bird that does some amazing aerial maneuvers to attract a mate. I noticed last spring that there were a couple active in the scrub field next to the Shop Rite parking lot in Slingerlands, and last night when I came out from buying groceries there was one calling ("peent"...."peent"...."peent") and then flying up into the sky hoping to attract a willing female. So I spent a few minutes listening and watching before heading home.
