TWO CHALLENGING TRAILS
The Rte 390 trail should have been much better, except when I was looking for info about a new extension being built I found a long report describing how much the trail has deteriorated and needs to be repaired and brought up to current safety standards. And unfortunately - much of the trail surface is interrupted by root heaves, which made for a fairly unpleasant and jarring 10+ miles. A shame really because it's mostly shaded and other than some stretches having a lot of noise from the nearby highway, could be a really nice ride on a hot summer day.

Yes, that really says "0.9 Mile"... the first bit of the trail was paved and then stone dust, pleasant riding, but then it turned into unimproved double-track, with lots of ballast stone from the old rail bed. Unpleasant for anything short of a fat bike.

BIKE REPAIRS SUCCESSFUL?
8.9 Mile Ride on the Albany County Rail Trail
Friday, July 8. 2022
Spent a couple of hours this afternoon replacing the broken derailleur, replacing the derailleur cable, and replacing the chain (ran into some minor problems when I removed the chain to replace the derailleur and had spare chains handy, so...) - and then adjusting the shifting. During tonight's ride it all seemed to be working OK, plus I adjusted the new brake shoes I installed right before my old derailleur and rear wheel decided to duke it out.
