12.3 Mile Run at Thacher Park and on the Long Path
Wednesday, June 11, 2008

I definitely need to get in both distance and hill work to get ready for Grand Island at the end of July, so this afternoon I headed up to Thacher Park where I could work on both...

I was a little concerned I might get back after the park had officially closed, so I parked along Beaver Dam Road instead. Started with a loop down through the park... along the Paint Mine trails and then Hop Field. Hit a lot less mud than I expected along the Hop Field swamps, and explored a trail I'd never been on before between the old water tower and Paint Mine Road. The run up Paint Mine Road went easier than I expected; of course, the stop at the beaver pond may have helped (no beavers in sight, unfortunately.) Finished the loop at the car, grabbed my larger pack and a hat (the breeze was a little chilly) and headed for the Long Path and some climbing.

more to come...
