Early Morning on the Road
Rochester to Finger Lakes National Forest
Saturday, July 5, 2008

Under no circumstances can I be considered a morning person, as evidenced by the fact that just about the only way I run or ride early in the morning is if I'm in a race... and that includes times when I actively planned to get up early and head out on the roads or trails! So crawling out of bed at 3:45 AM to pack up and make the 2 hour drive to the Fingers Lakes National Forest near Hector was not my idea of a good time...

But there were some pluses to the early morning travel... traffic was fairly light for pretty much the whole trip, and I got to see both a very nice sunrise and lots of mist rising up out of the low-lying areas and off the various bodies of water I passed.

There were also many deer out and about... including a doe with two fauns, and four of the famous white deer behind the fence at the old Seneca Army Depot.

I made a wrong turn somewhere near the end and ended up scrambling to find race HQ... but got there in plenty of time for the start of the Finger Lakes Fifties 25k...
