A variety of circumstances meant that I would not be able to make it to iaido in Utica on anything even vaguely approaching on time, so I opted for a more relazed approach to the evening and after packing everything I needed for the weekend I headed over to the bike path between Schenectady Community College and Rotterdam Junction for a quick ride. I took the Dawes out for this ride, because I haven't been on it since June and I'll be riding it in probably two duathlons within the next 5-6 weeks.
One of the cool things about this summer is that I now recognize the call of a kingfisher... I spent far too much time following one down a section of the old Erie Canal between route 5S and Scrafford Lane, hoping to get a photo of him... unfortunately, he was always one step ahead of me.
Between 5S and the Rotterdam Kiwanis Park I saw something crossing the path and realized that it was a snapping turtle, trundling along like some prehistoric nightmare. It hunkered down when I got close and waited for me to pass by... I of course stopped and took some photos before continuing back to SCC's parking lot and on to Motel 6 in Utica.
