STORMY WEATHER = NO LUNAR ECLIPSE VIEWING 😞
Thursday, August 27, 2026
The good news is, the storm held off until just before I finished this evening's run... I enjoyed a couple of minutes of light rain, and was comfortably in the car when the deluge hit... and then it eased off to almost nothing by the time I parked and carried my stuff to the front door.
Unfortunately, there was still too much cloud cover (and thunder and lightning off in the distance) for the moon to be visible when I walked over to Ridgefield Park at around 10:45 to see if I could get a photo of the visible start of the eclipse... so I decided it wasn't worth going back out 90 min later to see if the full eclipse was visible.
Maybe next time...

BACKYARD VISITOR
Saturday, August 8, 2026
This afternoon I was lying on my bed reading and listening to the birds in the backyard when I suddenly heard all of them take off. One fled so quickly that it bounced off my window, hopefully without injuring itself.
Looked out the window and the reason why was clear:
To be clear, I've seen hawks checking out the back yard before... I would imagine the birds and squirrels gathered around the feeders are a tasty temptation. But this is the first time I've seen one perched on the fence.

LET IT RAIN... SWEET, SWEET RAIN...
Thursday, August 6, 2026
I drove through a couple of downpours on the way back to Albany and wondered what the weather held for tonight's run... during the 2nd lap of the course, it was thundering pretty steadily and we caught occasional glimpses of lightning off in the distance, and I really hoped they weren't going to end things early. I wouldn't have minded some light rain, and that's just what we got just as I was approaching the finish line. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk back to the car and took my time in the cooling rain as other folks ran for their cars. If not for the fact that I wanted to get home to eat (and I also was a little worried the storm was going to get worse, which it did for a while on the drive home) I would have walked around in the rain for a little while longer.
And of course the whole time I was thinking of this song by Coast... the images are a bit silly at time, but I love the song.
