For some reason I was the only person out on a bike today, on a grey Sunday afternoon with temperatures right around freezing and a bit of a cold breeze. Go figure. Actually, there weren't even very many people on foot.

The barge canal has been lowered to winter water levels, though it hasn't been cold long enough for there to be much ice on the river. The old canal, on the other hand, was completely iced over except at one or two small spots where water was flowing in or out. It must be tough to be a muskrat or a beaver at times like this - then again, I imagine that's why they stock up plenty of food in their lodges, so they can hunker down through the times when food is scarce and it's a challenge to even find a way out from under the ice.
