15.7 Mile Ride on the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Path
Sunday, June 8, 2008
Got back to Albany after a long, hot drive, took care of a couple of errands, and then took the bike over to the Niskayuna Lions Park for some pedaling on the bike path. Headed east to Colonie Town Park and back... it was getting later in the day, so the path was pretty quiet. Passed a few bunnies, lots of robins, and a bird that I think was a rose-breasted grosbeak.
Back at the park I headed west to Lock 7... I had originally planned to go all the way to the base of the old landfill, but instead I detoured over to the lock and since the concrete jetty was deserted for once, went out on it and took some pictures of the sun setting over the river... then stayed to watch the gulls and swallows swooping over the water. By the time I was done watching them (and trying to get some pictures) it was getting dark enough that I decided to head back to the car. Other than the multitude of bugs I rode through it was a very peaceful ride into the deepening dusk... and best of all, I got to see some of the first fireflies of the warm weather season!
