2 Mile Paddle at Mendon Ponds

After lunch we packed up the kayaks and headed back to Mendon for a little paddling. The breeze across Hundred Acre Pond did a lot to cool things down a bit, though it did make the pond a little rougher. We started at the beach and circled around the edge of the pond, startling a green heron in one of the marshy sections and floating past a gaggle of geese and goslings on the shore at Hopkins Point.

We pulled the boats out at the causeway between the ponds (the drainage pipe was too cluttered to float through) and contemplated going out on Deep Pond, but decided it would be too difficult to portage back over to Hundred Acre Pond. So we put back in and paddled the rest of the perimeter of the pond back to the beach. A short paddle, all told, but definitely a fun way to get outside on a nasty hot and humid day.
