Well, my visit to Lowes turned up the type of screws I needed, and I took a few minutes tonight to convert a pair of my Saucony Omni's into screw shoes, primary for running on icy terrain. I owe the idea to a series of e-mails that went around recently on the runthegunks mailing list, one of which pointed me to instructions on making a pair of screw shoes.
We had slightly warmer weather today and lots of rain this evening, so there may not be much ice tomorrow when I hit the trails for my run... but I've no doubt I'll get a chance to test these sooner rather than later!
