Ice Haloes Over the Rochester Airport

As I drove Ann into work this morning we were treated to the sight of the ends of an icebow (sunlight reflected and refracted by ice crystals in the air) over the runways of the Rochester Airport. Fortunately the image lasted long enough for me to drop her off, get back home to retrieve my camera, and drive back out to take some pictures.

At first I thought these might be sundogs, especially after seeing a similar photo on the wikipedia sundog page - but since they don't really have a bright central image, I tend to think they're just part of an ice halo. Either way, it was a pretty cool way to welcome in the day!
