Arbor Completed
Tuesday, August 12, 2008
I finished assembling the arbor on Saturday afternoon, then Ann and I went shopping for the makeshift "caps" for the ends of the legs that would be buried (to try and protect the wood from rotting.) Ann put the first coat of paint on it while I went out for a run that evening.
She started on the 2nd coat of paint on Sunday while I dug the holes for the legs... then on Monday we finished the 2nd coat of paint (the lattices on each side were especially time-consuming to paint...) and attached the "caps', then had a first go at sealing them around the legs with silicone caulk.
Today I added a 2nd layer of caulk, and in the afternoon we lugged it outside and planted it in the ground, then did some touch-up painting on spots we'd missed.
Overall... I'd say it's decent. Not as good as I'd hoped - in particular, the legs aren't as square with the top as I'd like. But Ann seems happy with it, and I guess that's what counts the most.
