A few days ago, when I was first feeling this cold coming on, a very knowledgeable and reliable colleague recommended Zicam tablets for working wonders with oncoming colds. So I bought a bottle of the rather expensive little buggers and started taking them every three hours (except when I was sleeping.) And initially it looked like they might be doing the trick.
Well, either I started them too late, or I should have gotten up in the middle of the night to take them, or they just don't work for me... because mid-morning my sinuses filled with fluid and I've spent the rest of the day trying to avoid sneezing my brains out.
Ironically, I've been reading Run Right Now by Joe Henderson, and just last night hit the section on getting sick, which included the following bit of wisdom that the great George Sheehan passed along to him:
"If you do everything you can to combat the cold -- rest, fluids, vitamins, medicines, chicken soup -- the cold will go away in about a week. If you do nothing to treat the symptoms, the cold will last about seven days."Lesson learned, perhaps?
