GOING HIGH TECH (+ a brief gripe)
Tuesday, August 7, 2007

After doing still more reading about how useful and important heart rate monitors are for training, I succumbed to another of Nashbar's sales and ordered a basic HRM this morning. Of course, what I probably really need is a device that would give me electric shocks when I'm tempted to be lazy and sit on my backside instead of getting out for a ride or a run. Anyway, once the new gizmo arrives I will no doubt have lots to say about it...

Speaking of gizmos - I also bit the rather expensive bullet last Friday and ordered a digital camera from Amazon. I was swayed in part by the fact that I was able to get a 2GB high speed SD card for an additional $5. I even paid for standard shipping this time, in hopes of getting the package before I leave for Rochester on Friday. So why is it my shipment is still sitting somewhere, supposedly waiting for the USPS to pick it up? (Worse still, according to the USPS tracking info, it's waiting in Springfield, MA! I could drive there and back in 3 hours!) I received an e-mail from an Ebay seller yesterday indicating that my new antivirus software, which I bought the same day as the camera, had been given to the USPS and shipped... you would think a big company like Amazon would be able to do at least as well as a small Ebay seller. Sigh.
