On the way back to Albany, I stopped at the Newcomb Adirondack Visitors Interpretive Center, in part to see what it was (the times I'd passed by previously it had either been closed or I'd been on a tight schedule.) While I was there I took a short hike on one of their trails - a nice walk on rolling terrain through woods and along a stream and several ponds. Very scenic, and very peaceful - I wish I'd had more time and, more importantly, more energy, to see more of their trails. Maybe on another trip...

A short while later I stopped at the Newcomb Hudson River Information Center (really, just an open building with some postings giving historical info about the river, and a nice view of a stretch of the baby river. )

Right nearby was the very nice Newcomb Picnic Area, which included a cool monument that diagrammed and named all the peaks visible in the distance.

Pleasant diversions on the long ride home, but I was still very happy to get back to my place and soak in a hot shower!
