The Utica Road Runners started their Five After Five Challenge in 2021. Starting the day after May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) participants have 15 days to run or walk 5k or 5mi each day, 50k or 50mi total, or the truly insane 5k/5mi every 5 hrs for 55 hours.
The first year I tackled the five miles a day option and it was TOUGH. While I was typically averaging 5+ miles a day each week, I would usually do more some days and less others. Subsequent years I opted for the 5k a day option (prior to this year, the 50k/50mi in 15 days didn't seem all that challenging... and as crazy as I am, the thought of trying to do the 55 hr challenge is just too nuts.
So for the 5th time, starting today and going until May 21, I'll be covering at least 5k a day on foot. Not a big deal on my running days... but it's going to be a challenge in the days in between, especially since I also want to increase my riding now that the weather is warmer.
