FOUR SEASON 5K CHALLENGE - FALL
WE CAN REBUILD HIM 2025 RACE #71
Rochester 5k Road Race
Sunday, September 21, 2025
A couple of comments regarding this morning's 5k along the Genesee River:
- I got up at 5 am to catch a bus at 6:15 am so I could walk around Maplewood Park for an hour, waiting for the race to start... a race which took me less than 45 min to run. Only a crazy runner would think that makes sense.
- I spent most of the 3 miles "warming up" (especially since I haven't run nearly as much as I should have recently.) This is why I prefer longer distances.
- I definitely missed running closer to the lake, especially the stretch through Turning Point Park (though I didn't miss the seemingly endless stretch along Thomas & St Paul Streets)
- On the plus side - I ran a race and was back home before 9 am!
Also noteworthy: I completed this year's Four Season Challenge! I think the last time I managed to do that was back when all the races were virtual and so I could run wherever I wanted. I started the Challenge last year with the Winter Warrior & Flower City halfs, but then forgot to register for Shoreline before it closed out, and ended up bailing on the Rochester half both because I wasn't going to be able to complete the challenge and because I wasn't running nearly enough last fall.
I will likely sign up for the challenge again in 2026... I just have to figure out if I can run the half marathons by then (and if I want to... Winter Warrior is mentally a chore, doing 4 loops around the MCCC campus, and Shoreline has the potential to be really unpleasant if it's hot and humid.)
