Hurray for Daylight Savings Time!
Monday, March 10, 2008
Appearently Daylight Savings Time was first proposed in 1907 by English outdoorsman and builder William Willett, who argued that it offered increased opportunities for outdoor recreation during afternoon and evening hours of sunlight. While he was unsuccessful in getting DST adopted prior to his death in 1915, the idea was put into practice by a number of European countries in 1916, and by the US in 1918.
I know DST is a bother for some folks, but I love it - from here on there will actually be several hours of daylight after I leave work! And while I'm too sick to enjoy it today, I have no doubt that before long I will be using those extra hours of daylight for running and riding... woo hoo!
